Winter Wonderland: A Guide to Winterizing Your Home for the Coziest Season Yet
As the temperature drops and snowflakes start to fall, it’s time to transform your home into a cozy winter haven.
The snow’s gone (we think…) and the days are getting warmer! As the world starts to come back to life, this handy guide will help to get your yard ready for spring!
It might be tempting to get on with it, but wait to clear the yard until temperatures are consistently above 55F. The bugs that keep your yard healthy hibernate under leaves, and in dried-out stalks. Give them a chance to wake up before chucking the debris. No bugs means your yard won’t have anything to pollinate it and keep it alive.
Apply fertilizer, pre-emergent and weed killer. And once the grass is treated and growing, mow as often as possible. Keeping the lawn under control now will make the late spring and summer much easier.
And while we’re on the subject… don’t seed while fertilizing and killing weeds. It won’t work. Wait until the fall and enjoy the results next year.
Get ahead of the weeds! Pick a dense, heavy mulch and lay it on thick. We recommend hardwood bark mulches over wood chips that have been dyed brown as they last longer.
Dead branches can cause all sorts of havoc. Go up on a ladder and carefully remove any that are no longer alive.
Enjoy your yard!
