When you first start looking for a new property, the average realtor may ask you some standard questions like:

  • How many beds and baths do you need?
  • What cities and towns are you interested in?
  • What’s your ideal timeframe to move?

But a VALUABLE realtor will ask another question that may catch you off guard.

And that is… “Why are you moving”?

I don’t ask that question to be a smart ass or to be intrusive. Understanding your WHY tells a whole story in itself, but more importantly , it tells a story about what’s most important to you and your family.

Maybe it’s that you’re starting a family and need more space. Great, now I can start looking for a house with extra bedrooms and a big yard for the kids. Maybe you just got a new job and want to have a shorter commute.

Awesome, I know to start researching properties closer to work. The reasons are endless, but every WHY requires a different game plan on how I will approach and execute a transaction.

So talk with your realtor about your WHYs. It can feel weird at first being so open with someone you may have just met. But trust me, it’ll benefit the relationship between you and your realtor and ultimately, result in getting exactly what you want.
