There may be snow on the ground in parts of New England, but spring is on its way, and spring is a great time to spruce up your home and improve its appearance as well as increase its value. Here are five simple tasks that you can do this spring which will make a big difference!
1. Clear out the gutters – Clogged, overflowing gutters can cause water to pool around your house’s foundation. This can lead to cracks and other structural damage. Get up on the ladder and clean them out. That means the water can properly drain away from your home.
2. Power wash the siding – After all those months of winter precipitation, there’s bound to be dirt and grime caked onto your house’s exterior walls. Thorough power washing will not only improve your home’s overall look, but can help prevent mildew and mold.
3. Check for drafts – Warmer weather means open windows. And that’s when you want to check for any cracks or holes which could be causing drafts! Caulk the edges to ensure air isn’t leaking out. This will prevent adding extra strain on your A/C unit in summer months.
4. Refresh the paint job – Do a quick inspection of your home’s interior walls, doors, and trim. Determine if any areas need a coat or two of fresh paint. Even just touching up certain spots can make a big difference in livening up the color and brightness of a room.
5. Plant new flowers – Add a few potted plants or flower beds to give it some curb appeal and color.
