Get Your Home Ready for Fall

With fall in the air and the tendrils of winter slowly creeping in, it’s time to get your home and yard ready for the changing seasons. Here are some top tips to keep you ahead:

Inside

  • If you have a wood-burning stove, have it cleaned and inspected before using it for the first time this season.
  • If you have a fireplace, get it cleaned and inspected before using it for the first time this season.
  • Give your home a good deep cleaning, including vacuuming all the carpets and shampooing them if necessary.
  • If you have any ceiling fans, clean them and reverse the direction so that they push warm air down instead of up.
  • Inspect your windows and doors to make sure they are properly sealed and caulked.
  • Bring in any remaining patio furniture and store it away for the winter.

Outside

  • Rake leaves regularly to prevent them from piling up and becoming a breeding ground for mold or mildew.
  • Inspect your gutters and downspouts to make sure they are clear of leaves and debris.
  • Trim back any tree branches or shrubs that are touching your house, as these can act as a pathway for pests or cause damage to your siding.
  • Make sure your snow shovels and ice melt are easily accessible and that you have enough to last the entire winter.
